The following are clips from Episode 3: Kandahar Province II of On the Road ("Hai Maidan Tai Maidan"), an innovative Afghan national TV program which showcases the diversity of Afghanistan and the progress being made in the country's development. Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the weekly television series features a different region each week. The 26-episode series highlights Afghanistan’s pivotal role in the region as a traders’ route and examines the historical relevance of roads and development to local economic growth, education, and access to services. Tolo TV began airing the On the Road series on November 21, 2009 at 8:00 PM (local Kabul time). On the Road is a combined effort of the U.S. Government, the Moby Media Group and The Louis Berger Group/Black & Veatch Joint Venture.

On The Road in Kandahar Province: Exploring Kandahar City

Thanks to new roads, Kandahar City is bustling with activity. National Afghan TV host Mujeeb Arez guides viewers through the city center on a local rickshaw and to a local market selling antiques.


On The Road in Kandahar Province: Tour of Arghestan Roads

Roads constructed with the financial support of the American people through USAID are providing residents of the Arghestan district and neighboring villages with better access to public services and increased security. National Afghan TV host Mujeeb Arez takes viewers along the road highlighting the quality construction.


On The Road in Kandahar Province: Soccer Match at a Youth Center

With financial support from the American government, youth societies are popping up throughout Afghanistan. National TV host Mujeeb Arez shows up for a soccer match between Ahmad Shah Baba High School and Mirwais Nika High School. These centers aim to help improve the quality of life of young people living in Afghanistan.


On The Road in Kandahar Province: An Evening with Actors

National TV host Mujeeb Arez talks to local actors about the positive changes taking place in their society. Art in its many forms is becoming more accepted, the actors say. More people have access to international media and find value in theater and drama giving young people a positive outlet to express themselves. In this video, the actors along with Mujeeb demonstrate some of their talents.
